Tropical Storm Don Gone; Tropical Storm or Hurricane Emily on the Way

By Paul Yeager, author of Weather Whys: Facts, Myths, and Oddities

Tropical Storm Don is no more, having quickly weakened after moving into South Texas yesterday, but a new tropical threat is quickly emerging. The National Hurricane Center is predicting that there is an 80% chance that a new tropical cyclone (tropical depression or tropical storm) will form within the next 48 hours.

What has the potential to become Tropical Storm or even Hurricane Emily is currently about 900 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

This system is a potential threat to residents (and visitors) in the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and all of the Caribbean next week.
