Memorial Day Weekend Means One Thing: More Snow in the West!

Paul Yeager, author of Weather Whys: Facts, Myths, and Oddities

People in the eastern part of the U.S. think of Memorial Day as the unofficial beginning of summer and complain if it’s not warm and humid. In the mountains of the West, though, ski season is still going on, and on this Memorial Day weekend (which should not include wishes for a happy holiday!), new snow will actually fall.

Snow advisories are in effect for the California Sierra, northeastern Nevada and southern Idaho, as well as the mountains of Idaho, western Montana, and western Wyoming. Winter storm watches are in effect in parts southwestern Montana, where as much of two feet of late spring/early summer snow is on the way!
