Weather Satellites–50 Years Old

by Paul Yeager, author of Weather Whys: Facts, Myths, and Oddities.

I know that I’m a day late, and this post might be a little personal, but bear with me. This is very near to my heart: Happy 50th anniversary weather satellite.

I can honestly say, as a long-time forecaster, that I don’t know what I would have done without you in my life.

You’ve always been there when I needed you, day or night, sunny days and stormy nights, and in sickness (when I was under the weather) and in health. You helped me know when it was going to rain and when the sun would shine again. You watched the weather while I slept. You helped me in too many ways to recount here.

I love you, weather satellite. Here’s to another 50 years for you–and many more happy years together.
